Buying car tax discs online
Finally. I know it only comes around once a year (or every six months if you're bad at budgeting), but buying a new tax disc is something I dread. Invariably, I leave it until the last day of the month, so the evening before I have to spend hours rummaging around looking for my insurance and MOT documents, and the following day I spend three hours queueing in the post office along with everyone else who decided that the last day of the month would be a fantastic time to renew their car tax. (Or is it road tax? It's just occured to me that I'm not sure exactly what's being taxed here, but I digress.)
Anyway, now you can forget that frantic hunt for documents and cut out the visit to the post office altogether, because once you receive a reminder through the post you can head over to DVLA Vehicle Licensing Online and enter your reference number. The service then uses internet magic to check that you have up-to-date MOT and insurance and once that's done, you simply enter a credit card number to pay for your tax disc. It's that easy.

You can also do it by automatic telephone service - 0870 850 4444 as well as web - www.direct.gov.uk/taxdisc
I'm a disabled OAP and consequently benefit from free road tax; you might be forgiven for thinking that renewing my road tax on line would be tailor made for me. Unfortunately I changed insurance companies at the end of May and the DVLA has yet to uplift the data of my new policy from the central data bank. Accordingly, 2 weeks later, my car is still parked off road, I am still paying for insurance and remain housebound

i bought a car this morning and it has no tax. I contacted the DVLA to tax my car, but as i am not on their system as the registered keeper yet they 'can't help'. which i think is a joke. i can now not drive the car all weekend and have to get to work monday morning! i am now forced to stay in and also be a couple of hours late for work in order to get to the post office. if anyone know where i can tax a car on a sunday please let me know!!!!

Anybody wanting to tax their vehicle online for the 1st Oct deadline is currently out of luck as the website is inaccessable. As usual the govt is failing to deliver. Another trek into town to the nearest post office, another unnecessary carbon footprint

Just thought I would try the magic way of getting my tax disc on line. I tried Tuesday night only to find the website inaccessible and then it told me it was down. I tried tonight and it will not even let me in! Well done DVLA.
I refuse to ring 0870 numbers with the usual l0 minute wait at my expense and then often getting cut off before I am answered.
It was bad enough trying to get through to their medical department to sort patients' problems out and that was a dedicated line for medical personnel.
Where do I go from here except queue at the Post Office???

I had Trouble last year registering a SORN only to find out eventually that the DVLA never ever mean what they say.
The V11 they sent me never had the necissary ref: Number (but they don't bother to tell you this stuff).
No this year I can't even get the page even though I just got my reminder a search of cashed pages revealed they have PERMANENTLY MOVED the page but clicking on the link to the new site don't help = looks like just another wast of time.
